HBS Club: New Media’s Impact on PR and IR – March 18th

Power and Impact of New Media on Corporate Reputation: From Marketing to Stock Price
In an increasingly cluttered media environment, with many voices of authority and many challengers, who controls the message- and who hears it?

Event Date: Wednesday, March 18th, 2009 at 6:30pm

Technology, user-generated content, and other forces are changing the media as we know it. Learn how publicly held and private companies manage their websites, their investor relations, and their overall public relations efforts in this environment from three experts. These marketing executives, who come from the city’s best known firms in public relations, will discuss how digital platforms have greatly changed — and will continue to influence — the role of public relations in the overall marketing mix.The experts are:

  • Harris Diamond, CEO of the Constituency Management Group of the Interpublic Group and CEO of IPG’s Weber Shandwick
  • Amy Binder, CEO, RF|Binder Partners, Inc., one of the companies of the Ruder Finn Group
  • Lex Suvanto, Managing Director, Strategy & Operations, The Abernathy MacGregor Group
These executives may be diplomatic with clients, but are extremely opinionated nonetheless and will discuss case histories and specific advice. The panel will be moderated by well-known Time Magazine Reporter, Justin Fox. They will cover such topics as: how companies no longer control the conversation about their products and services, participate or even create a home for the conversation; how a company should listen to the blogosphere; when and how companies should take action about negative material on community or blogger sites, the investor community’s use of blogs, and who should direct web 2.0 efforts at your company. They will give us their opinions about encouraging your employees participation in community discussion about your product and services and tell you what to do about the lawyers and their efforts to stop all of this activity.
