POSITION: Online Product Director/Manager (Title depends upon experience).
COMPANY: Successful online publishing company. This fast growing company has grown from zero to over $20M in revenues within a few years while reinventing the way consumers research, plan and ultimately book travel. This company is NOT a booking site. It is an online publisher. It has an interesting mix of products including: website, newsletters, e-blast bulletins, and travel search engine, magazine and eventually community/social networking and mobile. Every month, over 5 million people receive their newsletters and over 3M “Uniques” visit their website. This is an excellent opportunity to join the management team of a fast growing, pre-IPO tech company that already has a successful business model and a proven way to make money.
LOCATION: Position is located in New York City. Client prefers someone already living in the area, but will relocate the right candidate. He will NOT consider someone who would work remotely.
COMPENSATION: CEO is willing and able to put together the right package for the right candidate. The compensation package will include a base salary, bonus plan, and stock options. A full benefits package including 401(k) is included.
MANAGEMENT STYLE/CORPORATE CULTURE: You must have a lot of energy, able to work independently, and have top-notch follow through skills. Position reports to the CEO. As a member of the management team, you will actively participate in the important decisions facing the Company. The CEO is very big on delegation. He prefers people that are good at working independently. He believes in hiring the best people, then providing them with clear incentives and responsibilities. Focus is on results. Need someone who thrives under tough timeline pressure and the need to show pragmatic, measurable results. He wants someone who knows how to work effectively as part of a management team by building respect and trust.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
– Must have held a position within the last 12 months responsible for online product management AND online product development at a major online publishing site or portal.
– Must have experience with helping to craft editorial content plans and tools for users–improve existing ones and make new ones.
– Must have very strong project management skills. Must be experienced working with the technologists for development and with the heads of marketing, sales, etc to create new products or modify and enhance existing products.
– Must have solid experience in wire framing. Must be experienced developing wire frames and functional requirements.
– Prefer candidates with experience in gathering consumer research: primary and secondary research, conducting focus groups, etc.
– Prefer candidates with experience in scoping out whole new products leading to new businesses. Experience building mobile applications would be a big plus.
– Prefer candidates with experience or familiarity with Web 2.0 social media.
– Prefer someone who enjoys the entrepreneurial atmosphere of a small company, but has been through the experience of scaling up an enterprise to significant organization size and revenues. Experience working in a dynamic (i.e. “startup”) environment is preferred as well as a successful track record building a product from early adoption through market share leadership.
