Penguin’s DK: Goodbye Books, Hello ‘Flat’ Content. Make Once, Use Anywhere
Dorling Kindersley, the division of Penguin that publishes children, travel and reference titles, made a strong case for how it is moving to a “flat” content model, where a printed book is only one of many output options. The digital publisher of DK also said that companies like his need to do this to be ready for the next big thing in books—whatever it is—but as is so often the case for old media industries, the change is “massive” and not easy for everyone in publishing.

Updated: Exclusive: AP Branches Out, Adds Pulse To Its Digital Mix
Over the years, the Associated Press has made a profile for itself by syndicating its news across thousands of newspapers both in the U.S. and abroad. Now as newspaper readers move to new platforms like tablets to consume their news content, the AP wants to make sure it is syndicating there, too. Today it is announcing a deal with one of the bigger tablet news-reading apps, Pulse, to run AP text, video and photographic coverage via Pulse. It will be the first time the AP will appear within the service.

Nokia Buys Norway’s Smarterphone To Spruce Up Its Feature Phone OS
Just as Nokia (NYSE: NOK) is gearing up for a splash at CES to kick off the U.S. launch of its new line of Microsoft-powered smartphones, it has pulled a quick draw to show it is not going to neglect its lower-end devices in the process. The company has acquired Smarterphone, an Oslo, Norway-based company who makes an operating system for feature phones to work more like smartphones.

Sprint’s Galaxy Nexus Makes An Early Debut In Pre-CES Ads
Sprint’s preparing an ad campaign for its own version of the Galaxy Nexus, which is probably set to launch over the course of the next week at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. Ads featuring Samsung’s Android 4.0 phone on Sprint’s brand-new LTE network appeared on CNET Thursday ahead of the mammoth show.

Google (NSDQ: GOOG) is no stranger to patent lawsuits these days, but the latest development could be the first to see a carrier go after the search giant over such violations. UK-based BT (NYSE: BT), one of the biggest telcos in Europe, on Sunday filed suit against Google over patent violations connected to a host of Google products, from mobile services like the Android Market to more universal products like Maps, Search and the new Google Music, plus many others.
