MARCH 22: Digital Media MBA Happy Hour at Bowery Wine Company

MARCH 22: Digital Media MBA Happy Hour at Bowery Wine Company

With winter weather still hammering NYC we thought that we’d brighten up your days with another great Digital Media MBA Happy Hour. Please join us again this month when we will be joined by Ben Lerer who is the co-founder of Thrillist, a leading daily email service that represents the evolution of both male lifestyle and local city guide content. Ben and his co-founder have built a profitable national brand that consistently sells out its ad space — at up to triple-digit CPMs — while other online publishers search for ways to unload their remnant ad inventory. If you want to hear about a true startup success story, please stop by and introduce yourself to this member of Inc. magazine’s “30 Under 30: America’s Coolest Young Entrepreneurs.”

We’ve been glad to hear that many attendees of our events have been making business connections as well as discovering potential job leads in NYC. We’re also thrilled that we’ve been adding new names to our membership list as word spreads that our happy hours are a fun and relaxing environment for meeting digital media MBAs from leading business schools as well as interesting execs from around the digital media community. If you haven’t come before, take this email as your
invitation to join the best group of Digital Media MBAs — and those who love them.

We’ll be returning this month to Bowery Wine Company where we will receive special happy hour prices on food and drinks.

You can RSVP here, or just show up.

Don’t forget to visit www.DigitalMediaMBA.com to check out our latest listings of jobs, events, resources and news.

ALSO: Our annual Career Event is in the planning stage for mid-April. If your company would like to interview leading MBA candidates for jobs in business development, marketing, strategy, finance and more, please email us at: careerevent@digitalmediamba.com. We also welcome companies as event sponsors. Contact us to find out more.

FEBRUARY 10: Digital Media MBA Happy Hour at Union Bar

FEBRUARY 10: Digital Media MBA Happy Hour at Union Bar

Well our last happy hour was such a great success that we’re having another one right away. Many of you were pleased at the chance to speak with our last “Featured Guest” and we are certain you won’t be disappointed this time either. Please join us for our Happy Hour this month when we will be joined by our latest high-profile “Featured Guest”, Rafat Ali, the Founder, Publisher and Editor of paidContent.org, a leading online news company covering the business of digital media.

Rafat, a tech journalist by trade, founded ContentNext Media in 2002 and paidContent.org became his company’s leading online web property. He sold the business to Guardian Media Group of London in July 2008, and is still running the company along with the exec team. Please stop by to speak with this highly respected journalist and tech insider. I’m sure he’ll want to tell you what you can expect to learn at his company’s first namesake conference, “paidContent 2010: Discussing the Economics of Content” which will be held in NYC on February 19. [NOTE: Rafat and paidContent have generously offered $300 off to Digital Media MBAs who enter the special discount code "COLUMBIA" when making their purchase.]

We continue to learn that many of our attendees have been making business connections as well as discovering potential job leads in NYC. Help us to spread the word that our happy hours are a fun and relaxing environment for meeting digital media MBAs from leading business schools as well as industry insiders from around the digital media community. If you haven’t come before, take this email as your invitation to join the best group of Digital Media MBAs — and those who love them.

The weather has been so cold this month that we’ve decided to stick with our last venue since it’s so convenient to get to and the staff treats us so well. So this month we will be returning to Union Bar on 17th Street and Park Avenue South.

You can RSVP here, or just show up.

OCTOBER 26: Digital Media MBA Happy Hour at Union Bar

OCTOBER 26: Digital Media MBA Happy Hour at Union Bar

Mogul CursePlease join the Digital Media MBA group for a special Happy Hour this month where we will be joined by three Columbia Business School professors who have just written the new book “The Curse of the Mogul: What’s Wrong with the World’s Leading Media Companies.” If you follow the link to pre-order your copy of the book now — released on October 15 — just bring it with you and get it signed by the authors.

Here’s some info about the book and those behind it:

  • – We live in the age of Big Media, with the celebrity moguls at the helms of the media conglomerates telling us that “content is king” and “growth is good.” But for all the excitement, glamour, drama, and publicity they produce, why can’t these moguls and their companies manage to deliver the kind of returns you’d get from closing your eyes and throwing a dart? In The Curse of the Mogul, Jonathan A. Knee, Bruce C. Greenwald, and Ava Seave lay bare the inexcusable financial performance that lies beneath Big Media’s false veneer of
    power.
  • Jonathan A. Knee is a longtime investment banker and the author of The Accidental Investment Banker. He is also an adjunct professor and director of the Media Program at Columbia Business School.
  • Bruce C. Greenwald, an economist, is the Robert Heilbrunn Professor of Finance and Asset Management at Columbia Business School. His books include Competition Demystified.
  • Ava Seave is principal and cofounder of the consulting firm Quantum Media and has held management roles at Scholastic Inc. and The Village Voice. She is also an adjunct associate professor at Columbia Business School who will be teaching an EMBA Master Class in Spring 2010 called Media Strategy: Analysis, Innovation and Implementation.

So we look forward to being joined by these industry experts and offering you the chance to talk some shop with them over cocktails.

If you haven’t attended before please accept this as your invite to join the largest group of Digital Media MBAs — and those who love them. Since our events keep getting bigger we know that people are making valuable connections while relaxing and having a fun time.

Please save the date and we will notify you of the downtown venue as soon we have confirmed it. You can RSVP here, or just show up.

Social Media Week MBA Happy Hour

Social Media Week MBA Happy Hour

social-media-week-happy-hour-2-10-09Social Media Week NYC has been going strong since Monday so hopefully many of you have had an opportunity to  check out some of the panels (e.g. – KlickableTV Presents Social Video Platforms packed them in yesterday and Digital Hip-Hop: The Convergence of Hip-Hop Lifestyle and Social Media has 62 attendees registered so far for tomorrow’s event.)

There have also been some great networking parties — it is social media first and foremost — and Columbia Business School pulled in a great crowd for its monthly Digital Media MBA Happy Hour. As always we had senior execs from great NYC players like Ad Buyer, Blip.TV, KlickableTV and DigitalEastAsia.com, as well as, the CEO from left-coast firm The Lookery and a Chief Digital Consultant from Japanese ad giant Dentsu.

Take a quick look at some pics from the event and make sure that you sign up to get emails about future networking parties and job fairs.
