MARCH 22: Digital Media MBA Happy Hour at Bowery Wine Company
With winter weather still hammering NYC we thought that we’d brighten up your days with another great Digital Media MBA Happy Hour. Please join us again this month when we will be joined by Ben Lerer who is the co-founder of Thrillist, a leading daily email service that represents the evolution of both male lifestyle and local city guide content. Ben and his co-founder have built a profitable national brand that consistently sells out its ad space — at up to triple-digit CPMs — while other online publishers search for ways to unload their remnant ad inventory. If you want to hear about a true startup success story, please stop by and introduce yourself to this member of Inc. magazine’s “30 Under 30: America’s Coolest Young Entrepreneurs.”
We’ve been glad to hear that many attendees of our events have been making business connections as well as discovering potential job leads in NYC. We’re also thrilled that we’ve been adding new names to our membership list as word spreads that our happy hours are a fun and relaxing environment for meeting digital media MBAs from leading business schools as well as interesting execs from around the digital media community. If you haven’t come before, take this email as your
invitation to join the best group of Digital Media MBAs — and those who love them.
We’ll be returning this month to Bowery Wine Company where we will receive special happy hour prices on food and drinks.
You can RSVP here, or just show up.
Don’t forget to visit www.DigitalMediaMBA.com to check out our latest listings of jobs, events, resources and news.
ALSO: Our annual Career Event is in the planning stage for mid-April. If your company would like to interview leading MBA candidates for jobs in business development, marketing, strategy, finance and more, please email us at: careerevent@digitalmediamba.com. We also welcome companies as event sponsors. Contact us to find out more.

FEBRUARY 10: Digital Media MBA Happy Hour at Union Bar
Well our last happy hour was such a great success that we’re having another one right away. Many of you were pleased at the chance to speak with our last “Featured Guest” and we are certain you won’t be disappointed this time either. Please join us for our Happy Hour this month when we will be joined by our latest high-profile “Featured Guest”, Rafat Ali, the Founder, Publisher and Editor of paidContent.org, a leading online news company covering the business of digital media.
Rafat, a tech journalist by trade, founded ContentNext Media in 2002 and paidContent.org became his company’s leading online web property. He sold the business to Guardian Media Group of London in July 2008, and is still running the company along with the exec team. Please stop by to speak with this highly respected journalist and tech insider. I’m sure he’ll want to tell you what you can expect to learn at his company’s first namesake conference, “paidContent 2010: Discussing the Economics of Content” which will be held in NYC on February 19. [NOTE: Rafat and paidContent have generously offered $300 off to Digital Media MBAs who enter the special discount code "COLUMBIA" when making their purchase.]
We continue to learn that many of our attendees have been making business connections as well as discovering potential job leads in NYC. Help us to spread the word that our happy hours are a fun and relaxing environment for meeting digital media MBAs from leading business schools as well as industry insiders from around the digital media community. If you haven’t come before, take this email as your invitation to join the best group of Digital Media MBAs — and those who love them.
The weather has been so cold this month that we’ve decided to stick with our last venue since it’s so convenient to get to and the staff treats us so well. So this month we will be returning to Union Bar on 17th Street and Park Avenue South.
You can RSVP here, or just show up.

Min Day Digital Media Summit in April
Just a heads up – the magazine focused pub min will be throwing a little shindig at the Grand Hyatt on April 22nd. Called the min Day Summit – the Digital Media Summit, it might be worth checking out. Given the introductory text below, the attendees might be less web savvy than usual and could probably really use a digital media MBA with some experience:
No longer an “emerging platform,” the online arena is the platform on which all media companies will build their future. Now is the time to clarify and execute a brand’s digital strategy and hone its tactics. It is time for the buzzwords of Web 2.0 experimentation — social, video, hyper-distribution – to come out of the labs and get to work in building brand identity and long-term equity that will outlast twists and turns in the media market.
The min Day Digital Summit offers the magazine world an efficient, one-day exploration of digital strategies and tactics among industry peers. In this, the roughest year for media in memory, we ask the best and the brightest among us to demonstrate what is working for them here and now online. From the ad packages that clients need now to the distribution channels that find a fragmented audience, the min Day Summit on April 22 will help you follow (and grab) the money as it moves into a digital future.
Any event that has to clarify that the web is no longer an emerging platform to sell its audience is a little behind the times… but then again, maybe the marketing text was written by someone living in a closet for a decade. Details and early bird registration through March 18th can be found here.
Director of Ad Sales, HowCast
While an MBA is not required for this job it certainly wouldn’t hurt… They are looking for someone with 5-10 years of experience and depth in the mobile, video, or ISP markets.
Full details at Howcast’s site.
